Parent/Guardian Involvement

Parents can play many roles in sport: current or former athlete, coach, fan, motivator, role model or critic. A few studies have shown that family members may influence an athlete’s involvement and achievement in sport more than coaches. Parents also are the first and most critical agents at socializing sports.

Weighing in for Competition

Typically we attend tournaments scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays. Whether the Club will be registering/paying for your wrestler to attend, or you are required to do so, we will weigh the wrestlers on Thursday practice prior to the weekend competition.

Please make note of the link/document below. AAU age/weight categories are listed and will help guide you in knowing what age  weight division your child will be registered based on the weight recorded during Thursday's weigh-in.

DISREGARD the RED Age requirements. Your wrestler is registered with the Birth Year listed.

Darkhorse Spectator Etiquette

  • Arrive with a positive  attitude.
  • Encourage your wrestler to try their best,  have an attitude of gratitude, and be willing to listen and learn from the coaches.
  • Enjoy yourself at competitions and practices; your unhappiness can cause your wrestler to feel guilty.
  • Allow the coaches to be in your wrestler's corner. It's okay to stand by and observe during competition and practice; however, your  wrestler will perform best while focusing on one instructor (their coach).
  • Be considerate of spectators behind you (sit while in the stands and kneel while on the floor).

Fundraising

Our Club has been offering a Raffle ticket fundraiser for over 5 seasons. With the proceeds from this fundraiser, we have been fortunate to purchase mats for the club as well as a digital scale for weigh-ins.

As our wrestlers progress and continue with the club, they are invited at the middle-school and high-school level to participate in additional competition and training opportunities. Darkhorse funds  help offset the expenses for these trips such as team van rentals, food and lodging.

If you or anyone you know are looking for an opportunity to donate to a Non-Profit organization, we are happy to initiate a letter of request for sponsorship to these businesses or individuals and we can provide the Donor with the tax ID number for our Club.

Ticket Sales Quota

Each Wrestler/Family is asked to sell at least 20 raffle tickets. The tickets are priced at $20 per ticket.

Upon returning all 20 tickets and payment, your wrestler/family of wrestlers will be added to the fully-funded competition entry fee list. Once added to the list, Darkhorse will pay the wrestler  entry fees for  any of our scheduled AAU competitions. If your wrestler or family does not complete the sale of all 20 tickets, you will be required to register and pay for your wrestler's entry fees at any tournaments you choose to attend during the season.

Take Some Leave Some

Every year our Darkhorse Wrestling Family expands. If you have any new or used wrestling shoes, headgear, singlets, apparel etc. that you would like to donate to others in the club, please bring them to practice and we will happily share them with those who need items.

If you are in need of any items, please feel free to check out our tote of donated items. If the table and tote are not available at practice, you can ask a coach to help locate the Take Some Leave Some items.
